In a vibrant display of unity and celebration, members of the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) came together to mark the 60th anniversary of the NIPR. The event, characterised by a carnival-like atmosphere, saw a large turnout of public relations professionals and enthusiasts who participated in a celebratory walk themed “Walk for Economic Transformation.”
The event, according to a press release signed by the Chapter’s Public Relations Officer, Samuel O. Adeyemi, began at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) House in Ikeja and concluded at the JJT Park in Alausa, Ikeja. The walk was a symbolic gesture to underline the critical role of public relations in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, Mrs Comfort Obot Nwankwo, highlighted the importance of the public relations profession in driving economic transformation. She urged Nigerian policymakers to recognise and prioritise public relations as a vital tool for national development and economic rejuvenation.
“Public relations is not just about managing communications; it is a strategic tool that can significantly influence policy, drive economic initiatives, and transform the nation’s fortunes,” Mrs Nwankwo stated, reinforcing the profession’s relevance in today’s socio-economic landscape.
The 60th-anniversary celebrations, aptly named the Diamond Celebration, were not limited to Lagos. Public relations professionals across all 36 states of Nigeria marked the milestone, reflecting the nationwide recognition of the NIPR’s contributions to the country’s development.
The “Walk for Economic Transformation” serves as a powerful reminder of the essential role public relations plays in fostering economic growth and national unity. As the NIPR celebrates six decades of excellence, the Lagos Chapter’s commitment to advancing the profession and contributing to Nigeria’s economic transformation remains stronger than ever.
