Duchess International Hospital Crowned Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year 2024

Duchess International Hospital, located in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, has been honoured as the Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year 2024 at the prestigious Nigeria Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA). The award highlights the hospital’s rapid rise to prominence, less than three years after its inception, marking a significant milestone in the Nigerian healthcare sector.

In a competitive nationwide voting process that included several of Nigeria’s top healthcare institutions, Duchess International Hospital emerged as the leading private tertiary healthcare provider. This accolade reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to delivering affordable, world-class medical care to Nigerians.

The NHEA, established in 2014, is an initiative by Global Project and Resources in collaboration with the Anadach Group. The awards are designed to celebrate individuals and organisations that have made substantial contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s healthcare sector. The Duchess International Hospital’s recognition as the Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year was presented during the NHEA’s 10th-anniversary celebration on 21 June 2024.

Speaking at a media briefing on 9 July 2024, Dr Adetokunbo Shitta-Bey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Duchess International Hospital, reaffirmed the hospital’s vision to become “Africa’s favourite hospital” and its mission to “reverse medical tourism by delivering the highest standards of care.” He underscored the hospital’s strategic priorities focused on providing “access to affordable world-class healthcare,” positioning Duchess as a key player in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

Duchess International Hospital is a state-of-the-art, multi-specialist facility, boasting 100 beds, 36 clinical consulting rooms, five operating theatres, and 22 critical care beds, among other advanced medical infrastructures. Over the past three years, the hospital has achieved numerous milestones, including groundbreaking surgeries such as complex breast reconstruction, orthopaedic procedures, brain and spine operations, and a thriving open-heart surgery programme.

Despite its advanced offerings, Duchess International Hospital has maintained its patient registration fee at N5000 since opening in October 2021, a commitment that will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future. This dedication to affordability ensures that world-class healthcare is accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of socio-economic status.

Dr Adeyemi Onabowale, Chairman of Duchess International Hospital and the Reddington Hospital Group, expressed his pride in the hospital’s achievements. He noted that Duchess has significantly improved the lives of many Nigerians, curbing the trend of medical tourism abroad. He also commended the staff for their dedication to overcoming challenges such as high inflation, escalating electricity costs, and low purchasing power, urging them to continue prioritising the selfless service of saving lives.

Duchess International Hospital’s recognition as the Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year 2024 is a testament to the institution’s dedication to excellence in healthcare. As the hospital continues to grow and expand its services, it remains committed to its mission of providing affordable, high-quality care, thereby solidifying its position as a leading healthcare provider in Nigeria and across Africa.
