Pernod Ricard Nigeria Joins Global Movement for Environmental Sustainability on World Cleanup Day

Pernod Ricard Nigeria, a leading player in the global wine and spirits industry, is reaffirming its commitment to environmental preservation by participating in this year’s World Cleanup Day. The event, themed “Make Room for Life,” was organized in partnership with Let’s Do It Nigeria, the official representative for World Cleanup Day in the country.

World Cleanup Day is a worldwide initiative focused on tackling the escalating waste problem and promoting more responsible waste management practices.

In Nigeria, last year’s event saw over 26,000 volunteers collecting more than 2,800 tons of waste across 28 states, a feat led by Let’s Do It Nigeria.

Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s involvement in this year’s edition underscores the company’s dedication to sustainability and its 2030 Sustainability and Responsibility Roadmap.

As part of its commitment to circular economy principles under its “Circular Making” pillar, Pernod Ricard Nigeria has already taken significant steps to reduce its environmental footprint. These initiatives include planting over 6,000 trees across the country and eliminating single-use plastics.

The company has also introduced more sustainable packaging for several of its flagship brands, including Jameson Irish Whiskey, Chivas Regal, and Imperial Blue Whiskey, by removing single-bottle cartons to minimize waste.

Michael Ehindero, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, “We share a world of finite resources which is under huge pressure from human activity.

At Pernod Ricard, we strive to minimize waste at every step by imagining, producing, and distributing our products in ways that prioritize the preservation of natural resources.” Ehindero also encouraged widespread participation in World Cleanup Day, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Pernod Ricard’s sustainability efforts are built on five key principles: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect, aligning with its goal to reduce environmental impact while delivering premium experiences to consumers.

The company’s involvement in World Cleanup Day exemplifies its mission to foster a healthier planet and improve the lives of both present and future generations.
